The Prologue (titled "The Shattered World" in English and "砕かれた世界" in Japanese) is the first level available in Story Mode in the original Dissidia Final Fantasy. It features several simple stages intended to let the player learn the story mode aspects of the game and therefore is not difficult to complete. The Warrior of Light is controlled. Upon completion, the ten Destiny Odyssey levels are unlocked.

In the Western and Universal Tuning releases, this serves as the tutorial for the story mode aspects of the game whilst the introductory tutorial serves as the tutorial for the action-fighting aspects of the game. In the original Japanese release, the Prologue combines both these aspects in a single tutorial.

When the player opens the chest containing the Broadsword (for the first time) the Shop will be unlocked. Upon completion of the Prologue, the PP Catalog will be unlocked.
