Dissidia: Final Fantasy is an arena fighting game originally released in arcades in 2015 and later in early 2018 as Dissidia Final Fantasy NT (NT standing for New Tale) exclusively for the Playstation 4. Dissidia NT continues the story to its conclusion.

Gameplay[]

The game retains many aspects from the original PSP games while reworking them to fit a multiplayer team environment. The newest addition is the new three-on-three combat system, allowing up to six players in teams to fight against one another. Another addition is the EX Skills, which serve as buffs and debuffs for allies and enemies, building on the party dynamic of the traditional Final Fantasy series. Each character also has a single EX Skill unique to them, based on abilities from their home games or enhances their playstyle in some fashion. Summons are now expanded into have a physical presence on the battlefield as a fourth party member for the team while at the same time granting buffs to their party. The Summon gauge is filled by dealing or receiving damage but this process can be hastened by attacking Summon Cores that periodically appear. Once filled, one or more characters can begin the summoning process. If all three contribute, then the summon will happen instantaneously.

Story[]

The game's story mode continues after the events of the 13th cycle. The Warriors of Cosmos and Chaos have been summoned back, not by the deities, but by their successors, Materia and Spiritus. Unlike the previous cycles, all of the Warriors retain their memories of their worlds, learn all information about the old conflict, and remember their experiences in their respective cycles. Warriors from both sides have been tasked to once again fight each other and the energy generating from their battle is what sustains the world. However, from behind the scenes, something is devouring the realm, attracted to the heated battles through out the worlds created from memories of warriors' pasts. This new threat threatens to devour all, forcing bitter enemies to set aside their differences to unite against a common foe.

Confirmed Characters[]

All but five playable characters from the original two games returned. The game was slated to have between 30 and 60 characters and included not only characters from the mainline series, but spinoffs as well:
